If one is planning a family's first trip to Los Angeles, it may seem impossible to schedule everything everyone would wish to do. There are trips to watch the surfers at Redondo, Manhattan or Huntington Beach. Venice Beach is the site of a television staple, "Muscle Beach." This site attracts weight lifters and body builders from all over the world. They gather for competitions or just to work out on the beach in full view of mortal tourists stunned by the appearance of Greek-like gods and goddesses on the strand. For these vacations, travelers should plan flights to Los Angeles that land at Los Angeles International or John Wayne International airport.

If sea and sand is not high on the list of priorities, inland attractions in Los Angeles like the Hollywood Bowl and the Kodak Theater. One can see the Golden Age of Hollywood still evidenced by the footsteps cast in cement outside of Mann's Chinese theater or look for one's favorite star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Shuttles, buses and trolleys are also available for a riding tour to see the Griffith Park observatory made famous in "Rebel Without a Cause" or the apartment where Richard Gere climbed a fire escape in "Pretty Woman." Since these attractions have few if any affordable hotels within walking distance, travelers may wish to book cheap flights to Los Angeles by landing at Ontario or Burbank airports. It may be easiest to travel by rental car, but be sure to allow plenty of travel time. The Los Angeles freeways can be quite crowded. Also, California has strict seat belt laws so remember to buckle up.

Traveling over the Hollywood Hills into the North Hollywood section of Los Angeles, one can see the Academy of Arts and Sciences, or the apartment home of the "Karate Kid." One can walk through the famous Universal Studios front gates and experience what it is like to make movies. A back lot tram ride shows visitors the courthouse square from "Back to the Future" or "Six-points Texas," the western set that started the studio back in the era of the silent movie. Although located farther away in Orange County, another popular theme park is the Disneyland Resort. Tourists can visit with Mickey and the gang, or fight off Jack Sparrow or see the rest of California on an attraction called "Soaring over California" at the California Adventure Park. Some hotels offer discount tickets to both attractions and transportation between them. Travelers may choose any local airport for their Los Angeles flights , since hotels that provide shuttle service to their respective areas surround both theme parks.

Los Angeles has earned its name as an entertainment capitol. Plan an itinerary that allows the family to see as much of it as possible by choosing flights to Los Angeles area airports and hotels close to the attractions everyone wants to see. The distances between attractions may seem daunting, but tourist trams and shuttles buses are available to many of them.
