Reaching Los Angeles

Los Angeles hotels

Air
Los Angeles has six commercial airports and several more private ones.  Whilst Los Angeles International (LAX) is by far the largest, it is also extremely busy with the result that long queues are common.  Travel around the airport’s nine terminals is free with the “A” shuttle bus.  The closest airport to the main sights of LA is Burbank, which is quieter and quicker and one that visitors may want to consider.

Whilst LAX is only 15 miles from the city, heavy traffic can mean that taxis are expensive (C. $45) and can take a lot longer than the normal 30 minutes.   Public transport connections to the airport are weak however with no direct rail link and a handful of bus routes.

The best of the bunch is the LAX flyaway shuttle which operates between the central Union station and airport terminals every 30 minutes.  Renting a car is a viable option, and will be useful for negotiating the spread out sights of the city.

By train
The main Amtrak station is at Union Station, 800 N. Alameda Street . The train station has a Metro Red Line subway station.

By bus
The Greyhound terminal is at 1716 E 7th Street.
